Tax

Accelerated depreciation.

Solar power plants have qualified for accelerated depreciation of 40% of the cost in the first year on the written-down-value method under the Income-tax Rules, with the balance written off in later years. For a profitable business this brings a large part of the tax benefit forward.

Tax rules change, and the new Income-tax Act applies from April 2026. Please confirm the rate and eligibility for your assessment year with your chartered accountant. The calculator on this page does not include any tax benefit.

Your tariff

Energy, demand and time-of-day charges.

An industrial bill has several parts, and solar affects each one differently:

  • Energy charges. Every solar unit used on site replaces a unit you would have bought. This is where most savings come from.
  • Time-of-day (ToD) rates. HT tariffs price units differently by time of day. Your plant's output should be checked against your ToD slots, because a midday solar unit can be worth different amounts in different slots.
  • Demand charges. These depend on your maximum demand. Solar alone may not reduce them if your peak comes early morning or evening, so check your load profile before counting on any demand saving.

Industrial solar FAQs.

Will solar make my electricity bill zero?

Usually not, and you should be wary of anyone who promises it. A well-sized on-grid system can cover most of the units you use, but fixed charges, taxes and night-time or monsoon consumption still appear on your bill. What changes is that the energy part of your bill drops sharply for 25 years or more.

What is net metering and who applies for it?

A net meter records the units you draw from the grid and the surplus solar units you send back, and your electricity supply company (CESC in Mysuru) bills you for the difference. We prepare and follow up the application and meter change for you as part of the project.

Can businesses and factories get a subsidy?

The PM Surya Ghar subsidy is only for homes and housing societies. Businesses usually benefit instead through tax: solar plants have qualified for accelerated depreciation of 40% in the first year under the Income-tax Rules. Please confirm the rate for your assessment year with your chartered accountant.

How much maintenance does a solar system need?

Very little. Panels need regular cleaning with water (dust reduces output), and the inverter, wiring and earthing should be checked periodically. We offer annual maintenance contracts that cover cleaning, performance checks, fault diagnosis and repairs.
